It's Our Turn

This blog is an attempt to instill a positive attitude to the Philippine community towards the negative traits the culture is accustomed to. Like the simple everyday things we do in and around our homes, at work and most especially in public places. Queuing for a line, driving though traffic or even common courtesy in getting on elevators and escalators.

Many a times, while living here in Metro Manila, we get irate by someone who innocently does something with total disregard to the people or things around him/her. In traffic for example, you see motorists and pedestrians seeming to be possessed with a “one-up” attitude towards each other. “Nag-uunahan palagi”. I say motorists so as not to categorize buss, taxi, jeepney, car nor motorcycle drivers. All of us have jobs to do, places to go to and urgent errands to finish. This behavior is not limited to traffic. It happens in malls, banks, even in our own homes. Everywhere where there‘s traffic of people or vehicles. It happens everyday that somehow we have come to accept it as a normal behavior. It does not happen quite so often in other countries though, which if one observes, kind of an exclusive trait in the Philippines. Let’s not rationalize things To coexist with one another is to share our public places without getting ahead of someone else’s turn or worse crowding someone’s space. We shall suggest simple solutions to this “problem” and hope that just maybe it will help solve the traffic problem.

Wait For Your Turn is a concept that was born out from our (my wife and I) own observations, frustrations and experiences living in Metro Manila. This is by no means to neither undermine Filipinos as a people, nor to correct or change us as a culture. This is a simple and friendly reminder to us to be more considerate of the things and people around us. We shall endeavor to post some examples of certain behaviors we think we can do with out, and of course suggest simple alternative solutions to them. We reiterate, This is not meant to insult our ways. This blog is to convey positive attitude and instill awareness to the people in our surroundings. We shall try to convey this message in a simple and short manner to reach a wider audience.

I am not sure where this will lead to, honestly. But I surely hope that someone will pick this up and start a revolution. And maybe put positive change in our conscience, consciousnes and behavior. At the moment, I am in search of simple phrases in tagalog that can somehow be used for this so called campaign. Phrases such as "Wait for your turn" in tagalog, will be very helpful. "Share the public road". "Give way". "Be considerate". "Use your brakes not your not your horn". "Stop". Etc.,etc.

Mabuhay and Pilipinas at and mga Taong palangiti. Welcome to our Blog!
